New Adventurers’ Frequently Asked Questions
Erin, why should I care about the Good Luck, Babe! bonus material? Is there anything worth my time here, or can I ignore you?
Well, first of all, kind of rude. We just met, maybe back off a little bit.
Second of all, that depends on what kind of a person you are. Are you nosy? Do you like behind-the-scenes content or rewatch podcasts? Have you ever flirted with the idea of reading the Silmarillion? Did you come here to yell about how I misrepresented the way camera crews are rotated to each team during actual filming? Are you currently procrastinating and in search of something that isn’t the thing you should be doing? Then perhaps there is something worth your time here. If not, consider reading the book and then returning here once you finish!
From the Good Luck, Babe! Acknowledgements (be aware that there are no spoilers below, but The Acknowledgements in full do contain spoilers):
“I know a lot of people say that their books are a labor of love, but this book should live at the pinnacle of Labor of Love Mountain. I have never wrestled so hard with a story, and I hope never to again. Good Luck, Babe! currently sits at around 79,000 total words. The document of scenes, chapters, characters, countries, challenges, plotlines, POVs, and jokes that I cut from this book is literally 235,919 words long. I murdered a serial killer’s worth of darlings.”
I love reality TV. Is that obvious? I love games and competitions and puzzles, and I wanted to do justice to them with this book. Unfortunately, that meant that I spent months worldbuilding a version of The Adventureverse that would never have worked in fiction—a 24-person cast, two challenges per country, more countries, more travel, and an intense focus on behind-the-scenes knowledge.
